What is this sport?
Buhurt (also known as armored combat or historical medieval battle) is a modern, full-contact combat sport where athletes wear full metal armor and fight using blunted steel weapons like swords, axes, and polearms.
It is not choreographed: Unlike historical reenactments or movie fights, buhurt is a real, high-intensity competitive sport with a clear winner and strict rules.
The Goal in Melees: In team battles, the objective is to knock opposing fighters to the ground. A fighter is considered "out" once they hit the ground with three points of contact (such as two feet and a hand or knee).
Permitted Techniques: Competitors can use percussive strikes, kicks, and mixed martial arts (MMA) style wrestling or takedowns.
Restricted & Illegal Moves: Thrusting with swords, strikes to the groin, back of the neck, or spine, and limb-twisting are strictly forbidden for safety.
Armor & Equipment: Participants wear 14th-to-16th-century style steel or titanium plate armor and chainmail, which often weighs between 50 to 60 pounds and requires high physical endurance.
Format Varieties: Events range from 1-on-1 duels and MMA-style "pro-fights" to massive group team melees—such as 5v5, 12v12, or even massive 150v150 wars. [1, 2, 3]
Governing Bodies: The sport is regulated internationally by organizations like the Historical Medieval Battle International Association (HMBIA) and the International Medieval Combat Federation (IMCF)

Watch her transform before your very eyes as she shows that even in the desert, mermaids can exist with just a little bit of water and a little bit of magic.
